About Transcript.you
What is Transcript.you?
Transcript.you is a tool that turns YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, Vimeo, Twitch, and audio/video uploads into searchable, exportable text. You can use it directly on the website or via our Chrome extension.
Is Transcript.you free to use?
Yes. The free tier allows one transcript per day with full export to TXT and DOCX. Paid plans (Creator, Pro, Pro+) unlock unlimited transcripts, longer files, bulk processing, translation to 134+ languages, and SRT/VTT subtitle exports. See pricing →
Do I need an account to use Transcript.you?
No. Guests can transcribe one YouTube video per day without signing up. A free account raises that limit, unlocks the file manager so you can save transcripts, and is required for bulk processing.
Chrome extension
Does the Chrome extension cost anything?
No. The extension is free to install. It uses the same free and paid tiers as the website — your account (or guest quota) applies whether you submit through the extension or directly on transcript.you.
How do I install the extension?
Search "Transcript.you" in the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. Three ways to invoke it after install: click the toolbar icon, right-click on a YouTube or TikTok page and pick "Get transcript with Transcript.you", or click the yellow "📝 Transcript" button injected next to the platform's Like / Share buttons.
What data does the Chrome extension collect?
Only the URL of the currently active tab, and only at the moment you explicitly invoke the extension. The extension never reads browsing history, sets cookies, or sends data to any party other than transcript.you. See the privacy policy for the per-permission breakdown.
The in-page "📝 Transcript" button isn't showing up. Why?
YouTube and TikTok are single-page apps that frequently re-render their UI. Our extension auto-re-injects the button after each navigation, but the first load can take a few seconds. If you don't see it after 10 seconds, refresh the page. You can always use the toolbar icon or right-click menu instead.
Transcription
Which video platforms are supported?
YouTube (watch + Shorts), TikTok, Spotify podcasts (RSS-distributed), Vimeo, Twitch VODs and Clips, plus direct audio/video file uploads. YouTube uses native caption tracks for speed; everything else runs through OpenAI Whisper.
What export formats are available?
Plain text (TXT), Microsoft Word (DOCX), and PDF on every plan including free. SubRip (SRT) and WebVTT (VTT) subtitle files on paid plans. Bulk-export as ZIP archive on Pro+.
How accurate are the transcripts?
For YouTube videos with creator-uploaded captions, accuracy matches the creator's own captions. For audio-based sources transcribed via Whisper, expect 90–98% word accuracy on clean speech, dropping toward 85% on heavy accents, background music, or low-quality audio.
How long does a transcript take?
YouTube caption-track extraction is near-instant (under 10 seconds). Audio-based sources run through Whisper at roughly 5–10% of real time — a 60-minute podcast finishes in about 3–6 minutes.
Why does my free YouTube transcript show a brief wait?
Free users see a short configurable wait designed to give the upgrade prompt time to be seen. Pro users skip the wait entirely and get instant access. The wait only ever applies on the free tier.
What languages are supported?
Whisper auto-detects 100+ source languages out of the box. Pro users can also translate any transcript into 134+ target languages.
My transcript failed. Why?
Most common reasons: the video's captions are disabled (YouTube), the video is private or unlisted, the Twitch VOD has expired, the Spotify episode is paid/DRM-protected, or the audio is silent / music-only. Open the task in your file manager to see the exact error, and use the Retry button if the failure was transient.
Billing & account
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open your account page on transcript.you and click "Manage Subscription" — that opens the Stripe customer portal where you can cancel, change plan, or update your payment method. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep access until then.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you're not satisfied within 14 days of your first paid charge, email us and we'll process a full refund. For trial conversions, you have the full 7-day trial to cancel without being charged.
Why am I being charged in EUR / GBP instead of USD?
We auto-detect your country from your IP address and charge in the local currency at the same numeric price (so €9.99 = £9.99 = $9.99). This avoids foreign-transaction fees for most users. If you'd prefer a different currency, contact us before subscribing and we can switch you over.
I forgot my password.
Click "Forgot password?" on the login page. We'll email a reset link valid for 1 hour. If the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. Open your account page and click "Delete account". This removes your email, password hash, transcripts, and uploaded audio within 30 days. Payment records are retained for legal/tax purposes (typically up to 7 years) but are no longer linked to a usable account.
Bugs & support
Where can I report a bug?
Use the contact page. Please include: the URL you were transcribing, your browser (Chrome / Safari / Firefox / mobile), and a screenshot of any error if there is one. We usually reply within one business day.
How long until I get a reply?
Within 1 business day for most queries. Billing and refund requests are typically processed within 2 business days. We're a small team so weekend replies are best-effort.
Can I use Transcript.you's API?
A public API is on the roadmap. If you have a specific need (volume of N transcripts per day, formats, etc.) please get in touch — we may be able to set you up with early access.
Still stuck?
If your question isn't here, we'd rather hear from you than have you wonder.
